Fitting Rivco's trailer hitch.

Another busy day in the wing cave for Dave today fitting a RIVCO hidden trailer hitch and associated wiring to our 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT.

Quite a big job. First had to remove seat, both side panels, both rear footboard mouldings, exhaust trims (both sides), rear tip-over bar covers (both sides), tip over bars (both sides), both exhaust cans and rear fender.

Then the scary bit, out with the angle grinder to cut a welded on nut off each tip over bar. Luckily managed to complete without cutting the bike in half!

Fitment of the trailer hitch was fairly straight forward as full instructions are included in the kit and a video from Cruiseman's Garage was at hand which helped enormously.

Once the hitch was fitted attention moved to fitting the wiring loom and trailer isolator. The 2018 Goldwing has a Can-Bus wiring system so no more cutting and splicing of wires.

I have chosen to fit the flat 7 pin Australian type connectors. The part which remains on the bike can be hidden behind the rear fender when not in use. A lot cleaner install than fitting the usual U.K. type round connectors.

Then the difficult part began, rebuilding the bike. This being very time consuming and thanks to Honda, who in their wisdom chose to have up to 4 types and sizes of fitting to secure some parts, the process takes longer than it really should. I'm certainly glad I didn't get the local bike shop to do the work as this would of been very expensive in labour charges

So now we are all prepared to tow our trailer to many bikers rallies. All we need now is the Summer heatwave to arrive.
