It is with sad hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved 2001 GL1800 which has served us so well since we joined the Goldwing community in 2017.
We are now proud owners of a 2018 GL1800 "Tour" DCT and are looking forward to some high milage in 2020. This is our dream bike and will be pampered, she will be kept in the dry and polished after every ride.
We took delivery of our sparkling DCT on 20/09/2019 and watched as our old generation 1 GL1800 was loaded on to the back of the dealers van, hopefully on her way to give her new owner(s) many miles of pleasure travelling around the U.K. and maybe even further afield.
With the new bike locked away, the legal work started - inform DVLA of the sale of our old bike, tax the new bike and double and triple check the details on the bikes new insurance policy.
Dave then spent a few hours playing with his new toy - discovering how all the controls work, loading music onto a USB drive, getting all the technology set "just right".
Then Dave, with a nervous look on his face took the DCT out for his first ride. Well, no need for nerves, the bike rides as if it is on rails. Look into a corner and the bike follows.
DCT - no clutch, no gear pedal, no worries. The DCT works perfectly, up and down the gears so smoothly that gear changes are hardly noticed apart from a change in the number displayed in the gear position indicator displayed on the dash.
Dave arrived home and picked up Elaine as pillion for her first ride. Elaine immediately noticed that the seating is no longer "sofa on wheels" but in her words is ,"more like sitting on a board".
Dave absolutely loved his first ride, but Elaine was dissapointed with the level of comfort afforded to the pilion of what is described as Honda's flagship tourer. We are now looking at options to increase comfort in the seating area to afford us "all day comfort"
So the scores on the doors after our first 100 miles are:
Handling 9/10
Technology 9/10
Power delivery 9/10
DCT 9/10
